If someone asked me where I'm from,

I debate whether or not I should answer with your name.

But even if I choose not to say it,

I still acknowledge the fact that

You've made me who I am today.

It hasn’t felt the same since I left,

We used to have a connection,

But we haven't seen each other in 5 years

And I feel lost without you.

I don’t know where I belong.

I’m a stranger in this land

And now I’m a stranger in yours

I have retracted my nationality out of embarrassment

I feel like a disappointment to you

When people ask me questions about you

I don’t know what to answer,

And out of shame I don’t call myself one of your people.

You deserve people who knows you

Someone who celebrates all of your traditions,

Someone who embraces your culture,

Your beauty,

Your music,

And your eye for changing the world

Even through your dark times.

No matter what

Your flag is the only thing I’ll worship,

Your glowing colors,

Your beautiful history,

Your love for nature,

I’ll defend you

Even if you I'm no longer with you.

You’ll always be a part of me
